A busy afternoon on Sayulita's main beach

Where to stay in Sayulita: a neighborhood guide

Sayulita is small, but where you sleep changes your trip. The short version: stay central for nightlife, north for quiet, south for value.

Centro (town center)

Around the plaza, with restaurants, bars and live music on every corner. Everything is walkable. It is loud until late, so skip it if you're a light sleeper.

North End

Across the river, calmer and more spread out, close to the quieter northern beaches and Playa Malpaso. The best pick for families.

South Side

A mix of local homes and rentals near Playa de los Muertos and Playa Carricitos. Quieter than the center and often cheaper.

Gringo Hill

The original expat hillside above the plaza, with big villas and ocean views. Great for groups, if you don't mind a steep walk home.

Nanzal

Luxury homes on the hill with sweeping views and privacy. You'll want a golf cart or car.

Tamarindo

A mostly Mexican family neighborhood between the river and Gringo Hill, with lower prices and a local feel.
